Research

Our research is based on rigorous, evidence-based methods and is intended to provide valuable insights that will inform policy and practice. We see our research as another solution developed by the CAJS, which has potential as a powerful tool for change that will contribute to the modernization of justice sector institutions, support the development of indigenous capacity, and facilitate the sharing of knowledge, expertise, and best practices.

A Threefold Focus

We innovate and create. We help justice sectors institutions evolve and adapt. We help identify root cause problems and provide targeted, culturally-relevant solutions, from digital transformation, to staff capacity-building and leadership strengthening. We tackle problems that have gone unaddressed, or that are ineffectively addressed.”

The Apex Technology Academy Research Unit serves as an extension of the mission of the Caribbean Agency for Justice Solutions: in service of justice. Hence, we are committed to undertaking and advancing research that helps in the overall development of the legal sector. Our research aims to support the effectiveness of justice delivery, access to justice, public confidence in justice institutions, the performance of courts, and the quality of justice services.

The Academy’s research hence serves as one of the solutions that we offer as we tap into its potential as a powerful tool for positive change by providing insight, hence solutions to address some of our most pressing challenges in the justice sector and beyond.

Our research seeks to present solutions in many ways. By conducting rigorous and evidence-based research, we can identify the root causes of problems, provide insights into complex issues, and develop effective strategies and interventions to address them. Additionally, research can inform policy decisions and guide the development of new programs, policies, and practices.

For example, in the context of the justice sector, research can help to identify systemic issues such as biases in decision-making processes or gaps in access to justice. Researchers can then work with stakeholders to develop evidence-based solutions that address these issues, such as developing training programs to address biases or implementing new technologies to improve access to justice.
